introduction
chuuya nakahara (character) is a character from bungo stray dogs which just happens to be my favorite piece of media ever...and my favorite character too. i discovered bungo stray dogs around 2019 and got into the fandom in late 2022 when i first read the manga, and immediately fell in love with his character. the first light novel i read and bought was stormbringer and it gave me an amazing insight on the type of character he is and how well written he is, despite the way most fans depict him.
my favorite things about chuuya are his loyalty, his sense of style, his determination and the way he interacts with characters. i cherish moments like the part where he meets kenji, as well as the details such as the way he fights with his hands in his pockets against yosano and kenji. he is an incredibly complex and interesting character and has managed to captivate me with his dramatic yet powerful backstory and his development as a person. how he went from the sheep king to a port mafia executive is another part i adore about him.
- one of my favorite artworks by ganji.
on the other side, i also admire how his flaws and complexities are written. his loyalty is so extreme it keeps him under mori's orders and in the mafia, a deeply questionable and violent environment he follows because they gave him a home and a family. details from the manga omake, like the way he calls dazai whenever he is drunk, are also a great touch to his character. i find his personality in the wan universe also interesting yet still funny enough to fit the show, and soukoku's interactions are honestly endearing. in the main series, they mix loyalty, partnership and love just as much as resentment, regrets and secrets.
my favorite chuuya moments would be the latest chapters, the soukoku reunion in the 30-something chapters against lovecraft, and finally both the dead apple and stormbringer light novel/arcs! generally, i love metaphors about chuuya. the hound in a flock of sheep, without a shepherd, and the whole dog metaphor that are both integrated in a funny and sad way into the story.
info about chuuya
chuuya in the current timeline is around 22 years old! in fact we don't have an approximation of how much time passed between chapter 1 and the current chapter. he is at this age 160cm tall and weighs 60kg - unsurprising as he's the port mafia's strongest fighter. and shouldn't be insecure about his weight (shout out to mori in the anthology).
chuuya is a hot headed, loyal, confident man who still knows how to take rational decisions, explaining his position as an executive.
his birth date is april 29th and his ability is upon the tainted sorrow (汚れっちまった悲しみに in japanese). it consists of manipulating the gravity vector of anything he touches. beside that he also has access to corruption, a powerful yet destructive skill that results from how he merged with Arahabaki at age 7.
chuuya's appearance changes through the manga and its various spin-offs and adaptations, the main differences being the anime took away his belt, hat chain, and greyish brown eyes. his hair remains short on a side since the events depicted in stormbringer. his wan design is a simplified, chibified form of his anime design. he keeps the choker in all of his designs since he's seen with it in stormbringer.

chuuya fact: in the japanese version of the anime, chuuya rolls his 'r's in a way that makes him try to sound cool by having an accent that is usually present among delinquents; it's interesting when put next to other mafiosi such as hirotsu and mori (polite and collected), or tachihara.
